The purpose of the Mathematics Placement Exam is to determine the mathematics course that is most appropriate for you. The result will not affect your admission status to the University of South Alabama. That status is assured.
Should you take this exam?
If you plan to take a mathematics (MA) course during the coming semester you must take this exam unless
- you have been admitted to the Developmental Studies Program. You must take this exam on campus during your Developmental Studies Orientation. DO NOT TAKE IT NOW. If you have questions about this, call (251) 460 7155
OR
- you have USA, transfer or AP credit with a grade of C or better in a college level mathematics course at or above Ma 110 . In particular, courses at or above Ma 112 serve as prerequisite courses.
If you do not intend to take a mathematics or statistics course this semester, but might in the future, be sure that you take this exam well before registration.
The exam covers a wide range of topics, so do not be concerned if you are not familiar with some of the questions, just keep going and answer what you can. To accomplish the goal of this service, it is to your advantage to answer each question given to you in an honest fashion, so
- DO NOT GUESS, doing so may place you in a course you are not qualified to take.
- DO NOT USE A CALCULATOR, you need to know what you can do.
